Last Saturday, Kim M., the Solis family, and the Paso Robles Pickleball Club came together to host the Dick Solis Rally for Fun Tournament, a day filled with friendship, laughter, competition, and remembrance.
Family and friends traveled from near and far to celebrate Dick’s life and legacy, including one couple who made the journey all the way from Florida. Joined by many of our wonderful club members, the result was a fun, friendly, and spirited tournament that reflected the very qualities Dick brought to our pickleball community.
We are proud to share that $3,645. was donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Dick’s honor. A lifelong supporter of St. Jude, Dick believed deeply in helping others, and it is fitting that his legacy continues to make a difference. As one of the founding members of our club, Dick helped build not only a place to play pickleball, but also a community grounded in kindness, encouragement, and friendship. It was truly an honor to celebrate such a remarkable man.
The tournament featured some outstanding matches and plenty of exciting moments. Players competed as members of the Blue Cohort and the Gold Cohort—a nod to Dick’s beloved alma mater. Go Bears!
Representing the Blue Cohort in the finals were:
Mike N.
Todd S.
Russ M.
Jennifer A.
Representing the Gold Cohort in the finals were:
Brian H.
Janet S.
Dave B.
Barbara F.
The finalists were awarded some fantastic pickleball-themed prizes, adding an extra layer of fun to an already memorable day.
Following the tournament, participants gathered for a brief memorial in Dick’s honor. Guests enjoyed ice cream—one of Dick’s favorite treats—along with fruit bars while sharing stories, memories, and reflections. It was a touching reminder of the many lives he impacted through his generosity, positivity, and unwavering support of others.
A special thank you goes to Bonnie C., whose hard work and organization kept registration, scoring, and game schedules running smoothly throughout the day. Her efforts helped make the event a tremendous success.
Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, volunteered, and helped honor Dick’s memory. Your generosity and presence made this a truly special day, and one that Dick would have undoubtedly appreciated. His spirit of kindness, sportsmanship, and community was felt throughout the entire event.
It is rumored that Dick Solis literally put his mark on Centennial Courts. Can you find it?
